League Rules
Ensure you review the FPPL rules before registering and drafting. From scoring systems to roster management, our guidelines are designed to create a balanced and competitive fantasy hockey experience.
OVERVIEW
The FantasyPuck Premier League (FPPL) was established in 2023 by FantasyPuck to host high-quality fantasy hockey pools, bringing together active members of the fantasy hockey community. Our mission is to provide a competitive, engaging, and fun experience for fantasy hockey enthusiasts of all skill levels. Through our unique tier system, managers are promoted or relegated based on their performance in the standings.
For the 2024-25 FPPL season, there will be 10+ divisions, each consisting of 12 teams, all vying for their division title.
At the end of the season, teams will earn points based on their final standings, with tiebreakers such as head-to-head (H2H) records and points scored (Points For) used as necessary. These points will determine promotion or relegation to new leagues or divisions for the next season. The top tier will feature the best managers and fantasy hockey strategists.
New managers entering the FPPL will start with zero (0) points and be placed in the bottom tier, giving them the opportunity to climb the ranks over time.
All FPPL leagues are hosted on Yahoo Fantasy, with each division managed and moderated by a FantasyPuck representative.
Please note that the FPPL rules, guidelines, and settings outlined in this document or communicated through other FantasyPuck channels are subject to change without notice. Any significant changes will be communicated to FPPL members via Discord and/or Yahoo Fantasy.

REGISTRATION
To become a member of the FPPL, participants must become a FantasyPuck Patreon member for a minimum of one (1) month. Any Patreon tier is eligible.
You must have an account on Discord in order to participate as all members are added to a league-specific channel.
Once subscribed to the FantasyPuck Patreon, participants are then asked to link their Patreon account to their Discord account. Instructions on this can be found in the FantasyPuck Discord channel “server-rules”.
Please complete the registration form as we collect some basic contact info and your preferred draft dates and times. From there you will be placed into a league before the season start date.

SCHEDULE
The season schedule will follow the weekly schedule defined by Yahoo Fantasy.
The fantasy regular season will begin on the first day of the NHL’s regular season. Fantasy playoffs will be determined prior to the start of the season. In 2023-24, playoffs began on Week 23 (March 18, 2024) and ran through Week 25 ending on April 7, 2024.
Any scheduled NHL games that do not play or do not finish will be handled by the NHL and Yahoo Fantasy on a case-by-case basis. FantasyPuck is not responsible for the cancellation or rescheduling of games.
FREE AGENCY AND WAIVER TRANSACTIONS
All managers will be allowed a maximum of four (4) player acquisitions per week. There is no limit on player acquisitions over the course of the season.
The FPPL uses standard waiver and free agency rules. Any player who is dropped from a roster will enter the Waiver Wire for a time period of one (1) day. This is indicated by the yellow add symbol on Yahoo.
During this period, other managers can submit a “claim” on this player. Waiver priority is determined based on draft order. Once a waiver claim is used successfully, the team’s priority will drop to the end of the priority order (12th).
Waiver claims are decided upon at approximately 3:00am ET.
If a player goes unclaimed during the one day window, they will become a Free Agent.
Free agents are indicated with a green add symbol on Yahoo. These players can be added with no impact to your Waiver Priority.
Both waiver claims and free agent adds count towards a manager’s weekly add total. Trades DO NOT count.
TRADING
All accepted trades will be reviewed by the commissioner within 48 hours.
If a trade is accepted that FantasyPuck questions or deems very unfair, a representative may approach the rest of the league managers via Discord to vote or decide on the trade. Note: this will not happen in all cases.
FantasyPuck has the right to veto or disallow any trade that they deem unacceptable, league-ruining or if there is reason to believe the trade was made unethically. This includes but is not limited to: suspicion or proof of collusion, quitting or bailing on the season, clear lack of judgment on a player’s skill or value.
If a manager is suspected to be making trades that impact the reputation or quality of the FPPL, they will be warned of their actions. If a repeat or similar incident occurs from the same team, the manager will be removed from the league and no refund will be provided.
PLAYOFFS
Six (6) of the twelve teams will qualify for fantasy playoffs.
Teams will be seeded by Yahoo Fantasy at the beginning of fantasy playoffs. This seeding will determine your matchup and schedule.
Teams that are eliminated from playoffs will be locked from making any transactions including trades, adds or drops.
In the result of a tie, the tiebreaker for any playoff matchups will be determined by the regular season H2H record.
Final standings used to determine promotion and relegation for the following season will be the standings displayed at the conclusion of Fantasy Playoffs
PROMOTION, RELEGATION, AND FUTURE SEASONS
At the end of each season, Managers are rewarded with points based on their regular season and playoff placements. Depending on your placement you may be eligible for a promotion to a higher tiered league, relegation to a lower tiered league, or remain in your same tier (for the next season).
Ranking Points System:
Scoring at the end of each season will be based on the following:
- Regular Season Finish
- Playoff Finish
- Total Points For*
*Points for will be used to determine any ties
All teams that qualify for playoffs will receive no less than one (1) point for their playoff finish. The team that finishes 1st in playoffs, will be promoted to a higher tier regardless of regular season finish.
